ALED is frequently consulted by senior
education officials in Mali and regularly contributes to
national dialogue on education quality and effective teaching/learning
techniques.
CODE – Ethiopia
CODE-Ethiopia is a non-profit, non-governmental
organization that increases literacy in rural Ethiopian
communities by establishing reading rooms that draw schools,
teachers, librarians, and citizens together to achieve results.
CODE-Ethiopia has established 82 community
libraries spread across the country, each containing some
5000 books, and together servicing nearly 700 academic institutions
at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.
Guyana Book Foundation
The Guyana Book Foundation (GBF) is a
non-profit organization that has been improving children’s
literacy throughout Guyana for nearly two decades by collaborating
with partners to provide low cost and no-cost books, reading
material, and other educational resources and services.
GBF ensures that teachers, librarians,
and community volunteers know the best techniques to teach
reading and writing, and to use books effectively in their
classrooms. GBF engages children from disadvantaged areas,
including school drop-outs, especially boys, to learn with
innovative programs such as literacy-based computer classes.
Associação Progresso
Progresso is a membership-based, non-profit
organization that has been creating opportunities for individuals,
particularly women and children, to develop their capacity
to undertake interventions that improve their own living
standards for nearly two decades. Progresso supports Mozambique’s
national primary bilingual education program by training
teachers on bilingual education and by developing all required
textbooks and teaching manuals in five local languages,
allowing students to study in their mother tongue.
